Why should I trust you with my dog? What about emergencies?
I've been a pet care professional in Toronto since 2004. I started out as an Animal Care Worker at the Humane Society, then graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College and worked in emergency and intensive care as well as regular practice for 10 years. I'm not only trained in first aid and CPR but have a lot of experience applying that training. Prevention is key: my skills and knowledge enable me to identify potential issues early and take appropriate action. I've developed my interest in dog behaviour by studying Dr. Sophia Yin's low-stress handling techniques and attending training seminars by Caryn Liles of Liefdog. I earned a certificate in dog emotion and cognition from Duke University and my studies are ongoing. Above all, I’ll love and protect your dogs as if they were mine. References available!
Where do you walk? How do you walk?
I’m respectful of your requests and mindful of your dog's individual interests. Many dogs appreciate a combination of comfortable familiarity and stimulating novelty, so we explore all the local streets and parks we can access and change it up each time! Some favour much the same route every outing and that’s totally fine too! We vary the pace, combining meandering exploration, brisk walking and play. I offer on-leash walks only.
What happens if my dog behaves badly?
I practice positive reinforcement. Punishment has no place in my relationships with my dog pals. I believe in allowing dogs to make safe choices for their own enrichment --like tracking sniffs! I set them up for success by managing distractions and avoiding stressful situations.
What are your hours?
I'm available Monday to Friday 11am to 3pm, and I’m open to occasional evening and weekend walks.
How do we get the ball rolling?
Please get in touch! Let me know what you’re looking for and we’ll set up a visit so I can meet your dog and we can discuss things further. I’ll have some paperwork ready for you and ideally you’ll have a spare key ready for me. I’ll be wearing an N95 or equivalent mask and I ask that you do the same.
